LOCATION

ETSU and Global Career Center are working together to pilot a two week J-term international work experience program for currently enrolled and eligible ETSU students in

Lisbon, Portugal

International Internship Program Process

For 2025 all international internship placements will be completed onsite however students should expect a mix of in person and online work based on the host organization.

This is a team-based work experience. You will be organized into teams of 2-4 students by ETSU and GCC staff. A curated real work project will be developed with an employer in Portugal and assigned to your team. You will have employer supervision and GCC mentorship throughout the program.

You will apply through ETSU and must be accepted by the University to participate in the program.

GCC will send you a welcome email asking you to fill out a pre-placement questionnaire, including resume upload.  The welcome email will also include a prompt to schedule a

pre-placement meeting.

The pre-placement meeting is an opportunity for GCC to learn more about your background and career or academic goals as well as provide context for us to source international internship opportunities.

After this meeting, you will reconfirm your commitment to participate in the program and GCC will then begin the placement process.

Our placement process is highly personalized to your team.  We conduct employer outreach on your team's behalf based on the information you provide us.  We do not pre-source placements.

International Internship Program Dates

January 2025 placements begin with arrival on Sunday January 5th with the internship beginning on Monday the 6th or Tuesday the 7th and will last for two (2) weeks

The internship will end on Friday January 17th.

Summer 2025 dates are TBD.

Prior to your departure GCC will host an online orientation session and will also conduct an orientation once you arrive onsite.

Students will work in teams and on a project that is equivalent to professional work.  The hours vary by location and employer, with a mix of synchronous ("live") meetings and asynchronous (independent) work.  Anticipate about 32 hours a week on average for your team.

During your international experience GCC will provide professional development workshops and opportunities as well as social and cultural experiences. Students will also have some time to explore on their own.

Student should anticipate working at an office but also be prepared to meet outside the office at co-work spaces, coffee shops, or similar.

Because of the short nature of the program students will most likely be housed in a hotel that is central to all activities. GCC will have 24/7 onsite support.
